How can I open my Outlook program if it is stuck on "Processing..."?

This is a known bug in the Microsoft Outlook program.  You will first need to close the Outlook window that is stuck on the "Processing..." message.  Then follow these steps:

  1. Hold the "Ctrl" button while you open Outlook again.  This will open a pop-up window asking if you want to open the Outlook in "Safe Mode."  Select "Yes."
    1. Note that this pop-up window can appear behind open windows.  If nothing seems to open, hover over the Outlook icon at the bottom of the screen and select the preview window that shows a small, white message box.
  2. If you are prompted to enter your password, enter the password for the account requested.
    1. If the IT department has added additional accounts to your Outlook profile by entering the password, please email the Help Desk for assistance with this step.
  3. Outlook will open your inbox with fewer features available.  Please verify that additional emails are syncing into your inbox, then close the Outlook program.
  4. Re-open the Outlook program as you normally would (without holding the "Ctrl" key).
  5. If you are prompted to enter your password, enter the password for the account requested.
  6. Outlook will load your inbox as normal.
